Killik & Co are a London-based investment firm with accessibility, trust and integrity at the heart of their mission statement. Looking to expand to their 9th branch, when a space became available in a building on Mount Row, directly behind their main headquarters, they jumped at the chance to acquire the space. Approximately 6,000 in sq ft on the ground floor, this additional location was prime real estate sitting in the heart of Mayfair.
When creating the design for the new Killik office space, it was important for us to maintain the unification of their branding by staying within the parameters of the visual theme and feel that had already been established in the pre-existing branches. Killik & Co’s branding is somewhat of a juxtaposition, bringing a very different ascetic to what you might consider a corporate office to be like.
The front-of-house area has a relaxed and open café-type feel. Its warm and welcoming and is set up in such a way to create an environment where people can walk in off the street and chat about their financial management, without that overtly formal feel that can sometimes be associated with the financial or corporate sector.
Considering Killik’s culture and ethos, we aimed for cool sophistication over extravagance. We kept the layout of the space open plan, contemporary, transparent and welcoming, incorporating light marble surfaces and wooden flooring in the design to further emphasise the lightness of the space. The velvet finish to the furniture spoke of stylish comfort, with the pop of yellow and blue upholstery interrupting the neutral white and grey colour scheme used thought.
This was a space-planning-heavy project. In the main body of the office, we needed the right balance of works stations, efficiency and some flexible spaces such as quiet rooms as well as informal collaboration spaces. Building a design that allowed the Killik team to come together and work collaboratively was important. In addition to this, the space had to integrate heavily with Audio Visual solutions, so this was a key consideration when configuring the layout. We brought in finishes and textures that were in line with how Killik wanted to be represented, brass inlay and considered minimalistic features delicately decorated the design, honouring the wholesome energy of the Killik brand.
